Telkom is launching a new Streaming Service and looking for original content from South Africa

October 16, 2020

Telkom is launching its own video-on-demand service – TelkomONE – on 30 November, which will focus on local content.

The company is looking for content from local content creators to screen on the service which will be available on web, mobile apps, and streaming box and comes in daily, weekly, and monthly subscription packages. TelkomONE will also include a range of TV channels from most major networks.

With this in mind, the company has launched a competition titled #OpenUpTheIndustry which asks South African content producers – amateur or otherwise – to submit their stories and stand a chance to not only win cash prizes to assist them with their content production, but to also have the final productions featured on the TelkomONE platform.

“In an industry where there’s ideas and no budget or striking content with no platform to showcase – TelkomONE is launching a service that will enable creatives and content creators to break out and be known! TelkomONE believes in talent and never seen before content. We’re looking for original stories, told by real people,” reads the competition website.

Content creators wanting to enter the #OpenUpTheIndustry competition must submit a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 short form mobisodes/episodes of original content of 5-10 minutes, for one of the following categories: Mobivelas (A Telenovela for mobile), lifestyle (Cooking, travel, fitness or education) and/or comedy (Stand up or sketch).

1 winner from each category will win a contract valued at R 100 000.00 to produce their full web-series and have it screened on TelkomOne.

Click here to visit the TelkomONE Competition Portal for full rules and terms and to submit your film.
