Statement Films and Topic partner to develop projects from African & Diaspora female creators

July 5, 2021

Submissions being accepted for consideration now through August 16, 2021

Topic, the streaming service from First Look Media, has partnered with Statement Films to help further their mission to support, develop and finance projects created by African and diaspora female creators. Together, the organizations are offering a unique opportunity for up-and-coming voices to have their ideas developed.

The streaming service and startup are now accepting pitches for thrillers, sci-fi, suspense, mystery and crime stories from African and diaspora women. Both episodic series and films will be considered. The organizations are seeking programming that will engage and entertain a global audience while exploring lesser known human experiences. Select projects will be funded for further development with the goal of appearing on Topic.

“We’re thrilled about our partnership with Topic” said Areej Noor, Founder and CEO of Statement Films. “Our shared goal of nurturing the next generation of African women storytellers plays a part in shifting African narratives and steering in a new wave of women-led African cinema and television for global audiences.”

Pitches are being accepted until August 16th, 2021. For a full list of rules, timeline, and other submission details, please click here to visit our website.
